The Forgotten Dog Foundation’s mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home dogs in need in the Greater Los Angeles area. We are dedicated to saving the lives of all dogs, regardless of breed, size, or age. We rescue shelter dogs that are set to be euthanized, dogs dumped in the desert and on highways, and save strays running the streets. We take in dogs that people can no longer keep and rehabilitate abused dogs that are removed from their neglectful owners.
Our dedicated team is passionate about animals. We strongly believe that keeping dogs in cages or boarding them is not conducive to their recovery. All our dogs go to warm and experienced foster homes, or if a dog is behavioral, to a gentle trainer. Our dogs receive a veterinary check-up and grooming before being placed in a foster home. Some dogs that we take in require major medical or surgery, which is also always done. We see miraculous transformations, sometimes in mere days or weeks, once these lucky pups are in loving and nurturing home environments, reinforcing our belief that rescue dogs are best-off in foster homes.
To date, we have saved over 10,000 dogs. The Forgotten Dog Foundation prides itself on never walking away from dogs who have medical conditions or have special needs. We have rescued blind dogs, dogs with diabetes who need daily insulin, and dogs with broken bones and injuries. We patiently love and care for each dog until they are fully recovered and get them ready for their forever homes.
Advocacy is a crucial aspect of our work. Over a two-year period, we rescued 513 dogs from a hoarding situation at a downtown Los Angeles veterinary clinic that has since, thankfully been shut-down. We also conduct ongoing networking of dogs that need saving but that we cannot, unfortunately absorb into our rescue. Because of our outreach to other rescues at least 300 additional dogs are saved by us each year.
Our animal welfare advocacy extends beyond our borders. We have been involved in large-scale spay/neuter programs in Mexico and Nicaragua, and we currently have a feeding program for street dogs in Sri Lanka. We regularly rescue and re-home dogs from Mexico and have supported rescue organizations in Morocco.
