Terrified and severely matted, this little dog was found running in the rural back roads of San Bernardino. She could barely see or eat, with her fur caked with weeds and mud. A compassionate Good Samaritan noticed her attempting to drink milk from a bowl left out for cats and reached out to dedicated rescuers in the area. Determined to save her, they repeatedly returned to the last spot she was seen.
Finally, just before Labor Day, she went into a trap. On that holiday, a kind groomer spent her time giving Faith, (that’s what we named her), a complete shave and a bath. The next day, she came to us, and our veterinarians discovered that this emaciated three-year-old little girl weighed only 6 pounds, her ribs and spine showing. It’s unimaginable how she survived all that time—alone and suffering.
Vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed—and many groomings later—Faith has blossomed. There are no words sufficient to express our gratitude to all those who took action to end what was a tragic life. Today, her life is glorious! Faith was adopted by wonderful prior adopters who love her beyond measure!
Cici, a 4-year-old Maltese-Poodle mix, was found on the streets in the San Fernando Valley. She was emaciated, with a mangled, broken front leg. We learned of her plight and agreed to take the injured animal into our rescue immediately. The dog—now named Cici—was taken to Veterinary Care Center. She was skin and bones, weighing just six pounds, with a badly broken leg. She was also filthy and in pain. After two days on IV fluids, pain meds, and antibiotics, Cici was cleaned up, her leg wrapped, and she was sent to one of our amazing fosters. We worried that her leg would need to be amputated, but wonderful Dr. Pedraza said he could save her leg.
Cici gained a few pounds before surgery and she was spayed and microchipped while under anesthesia. After many months of recuperation, her recovery and leg have been 100 percent successful! Cici is now a happy, 15 pound, playful almost five-year-old pup. Vet costs to date are $6,000. This happy girl was worth every penny!
